Graphite, red silk, brass, steel wire.

The written signs were the first mean of relating us to the surrounding world, as a premeditated, deliberate, invented artificial construct. So I propose a new kind of sign.

The tools of this calligraphy are the manipulations of cuts, and seams, the fragility of graphite and silk in the process of finding the flow lines that identify the new sign.

Ioana Ardelean is an architect, educator and jewelry maker, based in Bucharest, Romania.

Her jewelry work is focused on creating content and expression, as a deliberate construct, not a formal one. Her work, that she started in 2014, is based on her background in architecture, conceptual and critical thinking. Jewelry making represents for her the privilege of craftsmanship that involves both the hand and the mind in the process of transforming the material.

She won several jewelry awards and has been selected or invited to show her work to international exhibitions in London, Brussels, Rome, Athens, Bucharest, Prague, Skopje and Budapest. She was also invited to design several exhibitions and installations in galleries and cultural centers both national and international.

She teaches architecture design and object design, for more than 11 years at "Ion Mincu" University of Architecture and Urban Planning in Bucharest, and currently she is Visiting Professor at Inje University in South Korea.
