Leonid Plekhanov is a Russian award-winning artist who lives and works in Moscow (Russia). He combines traditional and academic Russian art school with contemporary techniques while pursuing a specific vision of the role of art and artist.
Leonid studied academic painting and drawing at the Imperial Academy of Arts and studied old Russian art in Iconography school. But before that Leonid got a Master of Science degree in Applied Physics and Mathematics (2005) and was running an innovative high-tech company. "Sometimes I can find time to play piano too- I have played piano since childhood," he says. Such a wide background gives him the freedom to think big and implement his artistic ideas with passion and energy, "I can paint 10-14 hours a day with no breaks, as I am always completely obsessed by the process, until (it is) done."
Leonid became professional artist since 2015 and in just a few years received multiple international awards for his works in various categories, such as Best Oil (2018), Best Figure and Portrait (2020), Best Water (2019), and Best Overall (2020). His works were awarded and nominated by PleinAir Salon (by PleinAir Magazin), ARCSalone (Art Renewal Center), Bold Brush, and others.
In 2020 Leonid became a member of Artists Trade Union of Russia and was also included into the UnitedRegister of the Professional Artists of the Russian Empire, the USSR, Russian emigration, Russian Federation and the republics of former Soviet Union (XVIII-XXI centuries).
Leonid’s art is about capturing the beauty of the human being and human forms in connection with nature.“Things which surround us directly affect the way of thinking and living,” Leonid concludes,-“I believe in the better future for all of us, and my art is my way to contribute into it."
