Irini Kanellopoulou

Eirini Kanellopoulou studied in the department of Decoration in The Academy of Fine Arts, in Urbino of Italy and later ‘’Architecture of Interiors and Decoration’’ in AKTO. She takes over the Research of Interior Architecture and Decoration of professional spaces and houses, and at the same time she designs and creates jewelry and accessories. Her point of view regarding jewelry…

‘’I remember myself when I was a little girl, I used to make jewelry using pine needles, and earrings from a grass that resembles a small lantern when it is fresh... I had this urge for creation from when I was a kid…In primary school, I made bracelets for my friends using threads, and necklaces using clay. Then golden leaves, mosaics, mockups, industrial materials, jewelry… In Japan a worn, cracked material, is very usually fixed with golden leaves. In this way, its flaw becomes its uniqueness and adds beauty to its story! ‘’Uniqueness’’ is a concept that concerns me about jewelry, because it is something which you would wear beyond the primordial need of clothing… It should symbolize something for you… I don’t know why it is that I always had this intense need for creation, I would call it ‘’instinctive need’’. There is no restriction in the materials I use…I use everything!! I observe the nature, I take inspiration from Ancient Greece and the Far East, and I love animals a lot… It may sound weird, but all the above have a strange connection in me, and the result of all these, is expressed via the materials I create. It is something like shrinking and shortening of this world… I expect that people will understand how ‘’precious’’ it is something which is created from a person’s hands, I expect them to love it and keep it, because it would mean something…and not because of the material it is made. Maybe, in this way, the human relationships in our planet will at some point reach their right dimension…love, solidarity, mutual help, and not because of Interest.
